Vietnam Waives Visas Until 2028 for Citizens from 12 Countries
Published on: 13 March 2025

On 7 March 2025, the Vietnamese government announced they had signed a new resolution exempting citizens from 12 countries from requiring a visa to enter the country. Resolution No. 44/NQ-CP will come into effect later this month, on the same date past resolutions enabling visa-free travel are set to expire.

The visa exemption will enable eligible citizens to travel to Vietnam for up to 45 days from the date of entry, regardless of the purpose of their visit. This means travel for tourism, business, and visiting family are covered by the visa exemption. The 12 countries named in the resolutions are:

  • Denmark
  • Finland
  • France
  • Germany
  • Italy
  • Japan
  • Norway
  • Russia
  • South Korea
  • Spain
  • Sweden
  • UK

The new resolution will come into effect from 15 March 2025 and is set to expire on 14 March 2028, with the option for the Vietnamese government to extend the resolution beyond that date. Meanwhile, citizens of the Czech Republic, Poland and Switzerland are currently eligible for visa-free travel to Vietnam under the tourism stimulus programme, which isn’t set to expire until the end of 2025.

Past resolutions enabling visa-free travel for numerous citizens will expire on 15 March 2025. Travelers are urged to check the visa exemption status for their country before traveling.
